Thomas (Thom) Stevenson, MA, CHIE, CHIA, FSM., is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Recreation, Sport Pedagogy and Consumer Sciences at Ohio University in The Gladys W. & David H. Patton College of Education.
Thom’s area of focus revolves around creating sustainable practices in the areas of foodways, food literacy, hospitality, and tourism. In addition, using foodways knowledge to create inclusive and equitable hospitality and tourism work and job force training and employment opportunities for all. Thom is a change agent who works to create accessible hospitality operations in the vast employment hospitality and tourism options available. He is a 12 year educator and 30-year practitioner in the hospitality industry working in hotels, restaurants, private country clubs, university food service, and catering venues . He believes that food ways programming is a powerful way to build resiliency and self-efficacy, one tasty bite at a time. Thom is a CHE Certified Hospitality Education, registered Servsafe Manager/education/proctor, certified in Mental Aid, and a National Restaurant Association Education Foundation-Restaurant Ready program facilitator. Thom holds a Master of Arts degree focusing on sustainable food systems, and a master’s Certificate in Educational Policy. He is working on completing his Ph. D in Philosophy focusing on Leadership and Change.
