FosterHub is a non-profit public charity founded by Michelle Mays who was a foster child that aged out of the system at the age of 17.

Michelle tells her story in a book series called Dumpster Doll to help bring awareness to the struggles that many foster children face. Proceeds from the book series have helped to fund the startup of this non-profit. Her goal in creating this organization is to help other foster children aging out have a much easier transition into adulthood than she did.

Safe and Affordable Housing

Many young adults released from the foster care system lack the resources to secure safe and affordable housing, or they may not even know how to locate these resources. We will work directly with local organizations or agencies to provide safe and affordable housing options to help young adults on their road out of poverty.

Foster children have often experienced abandonment, abuse, and neglect.

Failed by the parents who were supposed to provide care for them, many youth aging out of the foster care system have little to no trust or knowledge of the resources they can obtain to help with their adult development. Many do not have families to fall back on for advice. These kids, who have often languished in the foster care system for years, deserve better. Each of us has a role to play to ensure these youth do not have to experience failure again and again as they exit the child welfare system.

Mental Health and Wellness Services

Youth that have been exposed to drugs, trauma or human trafficking often struggle to cope with their own mental health. They may need help connecting with counseling services, or with learning how to manage their own mental health more effectively. In addition youth in the foster system may have challenges navigating the basics of insurance and/or finding a health provider. We support these young adults by finding the appropriate insurance and in network health care providers based on their individual needs.

Networking for job and
education opportunities

Low-income youth in the foster system often face employment barriers due to the lack of education, experience or even just the right connections. We parter with local organizations to support job placement for former foster youth providing skill building for Resumes and Interviewing. We also support youth with career counseling and applying/grant obtainment for post primary education systems whether that be trade schools or college.

Financial Readiness and Education

We equip youth to escape poverty by teaching the tools for financial independence. Financial security is key to long-term stability and opportunity. Education will cover credit, budgeting, timely bill payment, and the basics of banking and retirement. We also connect them to support programs like the Affordable Connectivity Program for cell and internet access.

Supporting FosterHub equips young adults with the tools to thrive independently, breaking the cycle of instability.

Together, we can ensure no foster youth faces adulthood without hope or support.
