FAQ
FosterHub is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that serves foster youth aging out of the system in the South Central Appalachian region. We work with youth referred to us by Jobs and Family Services or CASA. We do not turn any youth away—if we cannot serve them, we will connect them to organizations and resources that can.
Since launching FosterHub in 2022, we have been financially supported by the generous donations of individuals, community organizations, fundraising events, and campaigns. We recently received a 7.3 million dollar grant to rehab a building in downtown Logan that will serve as a one-stop hub for the youth we serve in Hocking, Ross, and Vinton counties.
FosterHub has three full-time staff members who are dedicated to serving our youth and expanding our capabilities. Until the Center opens in 2025, they work alongside committed volunteers and board members to meet the needs of foster youth in our program. Our team brings impressive backgrounds in education, first-hand experiences in the foster system, psychology, project management, and computer science.
The foster youth our FosterHub team serves will gain access to housing, adulting classes, education and training opportunities, jobs, and mentors who will continue supporting them through their first ten years of adulthood.
Youth who join FosterHub commit to being active participants in their journey toward successful, independent adulthood. This includes signing an agreement and code of conduct that guide expectations for daily life in our community. To continue receiving support, youth must maintain employment and/or pursue their educational or training goals.
In cases where foster youth are facing substance abuse, we refer them to rehabilitation centers to help them readjust to society substance-free. Once they are ready to move forward FosterHub can evaluate their needs and find ways to support them through their next steps.
Funding and staffing are the two biggest obstacles any organization faces when trying to establish itself in a new area. However, if you have an outstanding champion such as Michelle Mays, whose story is so compelling that it moves people to act, we have found that the community will rally around your cause.
FosterHub aims to expand this model across Ohio, and beyond. Other states, such as Tennessee and Alabama, have expressed interest in establishing FosterHub centers.
