WHY IS FOSTERHUB NEEDED?

OVER 400K CHILDREN ARE CURRENTLY WARDS OF THE STATE IN THIS COUNTRY THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN.
ON AVERAGE AROUND 22K AGE OUT OF THE SYSTEM PER YEAR.
THAT EQUATES TO OVER 50 YOUNG ADULTS PER DAY.
MANY OF THESE YOUNG ADULTS ARE BARELY 18 YEARS OF AGE.
WITH NOWHERE TO GO AND NO GUIDANCE MANY BECOME HOMELESS AND HOPELESS WHICH WILL LEAD TO LIFE THREATENING CIRCUMSTANCES.

What We Do

What is FosterHub?

FosterHub is a 501(c)(3) that will simplify the aging out of foster care process for a young adult.  By partnering with other organizations in Ohio that offer helpful services, we will ensure no child is struggling upon entering adulthood in the state of Ohio.  Foster Youth deserve the same chance to develop into strong functioning members of society like any other kid that already has a strong support system.

What makes FosterHub unique is that we will continue to provide support and life skills sessions for a decade after the child transitions into adulthood.   The goal is to have each foster youth able to begin their adult years with proper housing, employment, college, trade school, and life skills in general and then have a support system throughout their young adult years.  We will be the mentor that they are missing in their formidable adult years.

Why is FosterHub Needed?

With 88 counties in Ohio and each county operating their foster care program individually, this creates a silo effect.  The silo effect in Ohio keeps smaller counties from getting the appropriate support they need for their foster children and they suffer as a result.

This will create a large number of young adults who are not properly equipped to navigate the challenges of adulthood resulting in homelessness, addiction, sex trafficking, or suicide.

If we can reach the children that age out prior to their release date to get them setup, the impact will be priceless. FosterHub will break down these silos by working with multiple organizations and counties to ensure every child has a support system during their young adult years..

Get Involved

The absence of appropriate role models can impede a foster youth during the transition to a successful and productive adulthood.  We need you to help with this transition.   This is going to take a strong network of organizations to support our young adults who age out.

Do you have a business skill that can be taught in a classroom setting?  Do you have a company that is willing to train and hire foster youth?   Do you have a nonprofit organization that provides services, housing, supplies to former foster youth?  Let's partner in this fight!

Contact us today and help us create a solution for a better future by preparing these young adults for a brighter tomorrow.

Our Story

FosterHub was founded by Michelle Mays who was a foster child that aged out of the system at the age of 17. Michelle tells her story in a book series called Dumpster Doll to help bring awareness to the struggles that many foster children face. Her goal in creating this organization is to help other foster children aging out have a much easier transition into adulthood than she did.  Proceeds from the book series have helped to fund the startup of this non-profit.
